When I think of iPad owners I don’t think Selfish Elites. But according to a study by MyType that’s what we are, if you own one. The good news is if you are critical of the iPad, probably don’t own one, you are a independent geek.

To me an iPad owner is cutting edge. Since the iPad was released every big company wants to be part of the tablet craze. We have Blackberry entering, we have Android tablets coming and HP is redoing the Slate. These companies aren’t targeting “Selfish Elites” they are targeting the general public, just like Apple. Moms, Dads, Grandmas, college students and kids all want an iPad. The great thing about the iPad is that it fits the needs of all these different people.

I was at the ISTE conference (educational technology) in Colorado a few months ago and the one device you saw everywhere was an iPad. Even some vendors where giving them away. I wouldn’t consider teachers “selfish elites”. The other day I saw an advertisement for a local apartment complex. Sign a 12 month lease and get a free iPad. College kids haven’t earned their elite status yet. Even some die hard Windows fans had nothing but positive things to say about the iPad.

There is something great about a portable, instant on, fast tablet with what seems like endless applications to extend functionality.
